About the Ryder-Cheshire Ivanhoe Homes:

The Ryder-Cheshire Ivanhoe Homes were established in 1981 to provide friendly, low cost accommodation for people from country areas, interstate and overseas attending hospitals in Melbourne for medical treatment. Family members/carers may also be accommodated. The Homes provide accommodation in 43 self-contained studio apartments, spread across three buildings. Medical or nursing care is not provided. The Homes are run by the Ryder-Cheshire Victorian Homes Foundation Inc., which is an independent organisation registered under the Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission.

The Role:

Duties will include general reception and office duties such as answering the phone, accepting bookings and cancellations, checking residents in and out, and providing back up assistance in emergencies. Duty times will be mostly outside normal office hours, such as in the evenings, early mornings, and weekends. As these are generally the quieter times, there is usually plenty of time to study while on duty.  Days and times are by negotiation. A senior member of staff is available to contact if help is required, and a student mentor is available to provide support. Training in first aid, fire and emergencies is provided. After a successful 3 months probationary period, the position will be reviewed annually, and will be available while the student remains enrolled.

The Accommodation:

A fully furnished studio apartment with a bed/living room, kitchenette and ensuite bathroom is provided. The apartment has reverse cycle air-conditioning, and laundry facilities are available. The Homes are located at 10-14 Donaldson Street, Ivanhoe. There is a bus stop around the corner in Bond Street and it is a 1.3km walk to Ivanhoe station (on the Hurstbridge line) and the Ivanhoe shops.

 The Applicant:

The role would suit a post grad (domestic or international) looking for accommodation near La Trobe University, Austin Health, or other universities.

Maturity, good personal skills and computer literacy are required.
